Freiburg am Breisgau, Germany
Freiburg is known for its warm and sunny climate, as the door to the Black Forest, and for it’s panoramic beauty. Our tour will take you on a journey through medieval Freiburg, over the history of centuries, over wars and several spots that have shaped the present and the future of this city. See the red sandstone Gothic cathedral, Freiburg’s Münster, today the cultural center of the old town and an outstanding example of medieval Gothic. Notice the bizarrely shaped gargoyles, filigree steeple and the colorful farmers market on Münsterplatz. Wonder at the “Zum Roten Bären”, the oldest hotel in Germany. From here enjoy a view to Schlossberg, a hill where the castle of Freiburg was situated. Today a ruin, the castle was demolished in the 18th century, but it retained its importance. Find out more about the Bächle water drains, the winding streets, the many Rheinkiesel mosaics, and also learn about some of the black past of Freiburg during the Nazi rule.
